Using Technology to Strengthen Your Friendships

Strengthening friendship and technology through connection.

I was sitting in a coffee shop last Tuesday, surrounded by what I can only describe as a “digital graveyard.” Every single person at the surrounding tables was staring at a glowing rectangle, their thumbs twitching in a rhythmic, mindless scroll, while the actual humans sitting across from them remained completely invisible. It hit me right then that our obsession with staying “connected” is actually making us more isolated than ever. We’ve been sold this massive lie that friendship and technology are the same thing, but there is a massive difference between liking a photo and actually showing up for someone when their world is falling apart.

I’m not here to give you some sanitized, “five tips for digital wellness” listicle that sounds like it was written by a HR department. Instead, I want to get into the messy, unpolished reality of how we can actually use these tools without losing our souls in the process. I’m going to share the hard-earned lessons I’ve learned about setting boundaries and reclaiming real intimacy in a distracted age. Let’s stop pretending that a group chat is a substitute for a real conversation and start figuring out how to actually connect again.
